Arch Linux powered CachyOS that is known for its performance optimizations and other enhancements is out with its “August 2024” rolling release update.

Today’s CachyOS August 2024 release now uses the open-source NVIDIA kernel modules with the NVIDIA driver stack where supported, the NVIDIA R560 beta driver is now available, and the COSMIC Desktop Environment is now an available option on CachyOS. There is the COSMIC alpha desktop packages available via “sudo pacman -S cosmic-session” for those wanting to try that Rust-written desktop developed by System76.

CachyOS has also made enhancements to its kernel manager, a script to easily handle Secure Boot, improved CachyOS Hardware Detection, support for the ASUS ROG Ally X with the CachyOS Handheld Edition, and various other changes.

Downloads and more details on the CachyOS August 2024 release via CachyOS.org.

I’ve been running some fresh CachyOS benchmarks as part of an ongoing AMD Ryzen 9 9950X Linux distribution comparison and will have those numbers out in the coming days.
